Have you ever wanted to hide an item from your Content Authors for sake of their convenience? In this post, I will show you how you can do just that without modifying Sitecore securities!

Sometimes developers just want to hide an item. It's not much to ask, especially when it comes to Content Authors. So, I'm here to show you how you can hide an item from the Content Authors, without modifying securities.

Hidden Items

By default, Hidden Items are hidden from the Content Author. However, marking an item as "Hidden" does not involve Sitecore securities, so there is still a way for the Content Author to view the hidden items.

Viewing Hidden Items

In order to view hidden items, a Content Author need only navigate to the Content Editor, click on the View tab and check the Hidden Items checkbox in the ribbon.

Shows the View > Hidden Items setting in the Content Editor > View Tab > Ribbon

Making an Item Hidden

To mark an item as "Hidden," simply navigate to the item in the Content Editor, expand the Appearance section and check the Hidden checkbox field. You can also do this on the Standard Values of the item's template, if you want to make this setting the default for all items based on that template.

The "Hidden" checkbox field can be checked on an item or on its template's Standard Values
